Here we are in winter, and it has started to get cold, so it’s fires and red wine, just to keep warm.
OK so amongst other things I have had a reasonably busy time. Firstly, we had a photographic club weekend at Pringle Bay – this is about 80 kms from Cape Town. It was a great weekend with warm weather and a lot of photographic opportunities. I have put some of the images in the June Photos.
Then came the ‘Return to Kruger,’ thanks to Margarette and Robert we had a great week at a lodge on the borders of the Kruger Park. The lodge looks over the Crocodile River and one of the highlights was to see a pride of lions on the opposite bank – check out this month’s images. On out actual trips into the park, we actually came close to lions as well as the prolific Impale, Elephants, Zebra and Wildebeest. One of the other high moments was sighting a Leopard as well as some great bird life which was really good. Then it was back to a cold and wet Cape Town.
The Photographic Club is still great, and we have had some very interesting speakers, which helps you to improve your photography. On the competition side have some good results and of course some ‘not so good’. Regardless I still enjoy my photography as well as having some fun. One of the software programmes I use is ‘Photoshop’ and over the years it has become a lot more technical in the way one can edit one’s images, likewise you can have a lot of fun doing various things to your images.
My other interest is of course ‘Lawn Bowls’ and our club has excelled itself into possibly the leading club in the Western Cape. It has been hosting both National and regional competitions and has also seen our membership grow. From my side I enjoy the more relaxed side and have some great games, irrespective of who wins we have very enjoyable afternoons and a great social life.
On the sporting side it has been good, McLaren are doing well in the F1, an Englishman won the Giro de Italia, and the Bulls managed to get to the URL finals but unfortunately lost to Leinster. The Canadian GP was excellent and so was Le Mans.
Looking back over the last 6 months the sad thing is that I lost a sister-in-law and a brother-in-law as well as a close friend, I suppose that is life, may they all rest in peace and be remembered.
That’s it for now but KEEP YOUR EYES on the future blogs, there is a Photographic Congress in August and then I will be travelling to Spain in September. To all I send best wishes and look forward to continuing friendships.
